A Quick Guide to Rebounding – My Winter Workout Savior

Are you like me with the winter weather impacting your outdoor cardio game? I can only walk up the stairs from the basement to the attic so many times. I am bored with my dance songs and routines. Now the one thing that has kept me going is my rebounder. My rebounder routines have become so much fun since Christmas as I received a new, more advanced one. I can now safely jump higher and faster. Because of it, I no longer miss walking. Actually, I do miss the outdoors and am looking forward to getting back outside consistently. However, rebounding is an excellent alternative with loads of benefits.

For those who might not know…Rebounding is a low-impact, high-energy workout that involves jumping on a mini-trampoline also known as a rebounder. It’s suitable for all fitness levels. Whether you’re looking for a gentle bounce or an intense cardio session, rebounding offers a range of health benefits.

Why I Love Rebounding

  • It’s Easy on My Joints – Unlike pounding the pavement, rebounding gives me an excellent workout without stressing my knees and ankles.

  • It’s a Full-Body Workout – Even a few minutes of bouncing engages my legs, core, and arms.

  • It Boosts Lymphatic Drainage – The up-and-down movement stimulates the lymphatic system, helping the body detox more efficiently.

  • It Boosts My Energy – On sluggish days, a quick rebounding session wakes me up better than a cup of tea!

  • It Helps My Circulation – I’ve noticed I feel less stiff, and my legs don’t feel as heavy.

  • It’s Just Plain Fun – Let’s be honest, it makes me feel like a kid again!

When I first started, I kept things simple. I began with gentle bouncing, keeping my feet close to the mat. Once I got comfortable, I added in higher jumps, jogging in place, and even some fun dance moves to mix things up. I started with just five minutes and gradually worked my way up to 40-minute sessions. The best part? I can do it while working out with an instructional video or while watching TV or listening to a podcast.

If you’re looking for a fun, effective way to stay active—especially when going outside isn’t an option—rebounding is worth trying. It’s low-impact, works your whole body, and lifts your mood. So, if you're feeling stuck indoors like me, grab a rebounder and start bouncing. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
