It's Part of the Journey

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together. Marilyn Monroe

Five years ago, Teresa and I launched Earrings Off! It all started after a 6 a.m. hot yoga class. We usually attended the early session so we could get to work right after, energized and ready to start the day. For months, we’d been talking about doing something to share our passion for health and wellness, while also touching on other topics that we hoped would be of benefit to the community.

After that class, as we stood outside, feeling refreshed, Teresa instinctively pulled out her phone and hit “record.” With endorphins pumping, we spoke about how incredible we felt after that 90-minute session and encouraged others to give hot yoga a try. Little did we know that simple, impromptu recording would mark the birth of a vision, our business, Earrings Off!

Fast forward to today. We had planned an event to celebrate our podcast’s five-year anniversary—a milestone that means so much to us. We envisioned a night of music, dancing, and delicious food. We even organized a photo shoot and planned to record a special message for the guests. But despite our excitement, the response wasn’t what we’d hoped for. After long discussions, Teresa and I made the difficult decision to cancel the event. It was a hard pill to swallow, and we were both deeply disappointed. We heard from many subscribers who were looking forward to the celebration as well.

For a while, I couldn’t shake the feeling of failure. Earrings Off! is our baby, something we’ve nurtured and worked tirelessly on, so this felt personal. But then I asked myself—was it truly a failure?

The quote above from Marilyn Monroe encourages us to view disappointments as a natural part of growth. What felt like a setback wasn’t an end, but rather a steppingstone to better things. Disappointments are opportunities to pause, reflect, and reassess. Sometimes, things fall apart to reveal where we can be stronger, to push us toward opportunities we hadn’t yet seen.

Canceling the celebration may have been a tough decision, but it’s made us more focused than ever. We’ve learned, grown, and become even more dedicated to our mission. We are ready for what’s next, having sharpened our vision and strengthened our resolve. And when the next opportunity arrives, we’ll be prepared, stronger than before.

So yes, the event didn’t happen as we hoped, but this is far from a failure. It’s part of our journey. Teresa and I look forward to where the road takes us.
